Yapakana National Park

Located almost in the geographical center of Amazonas state, covering an area of 320,000 hts. flat land, savannas, mountains, streams and especially the hill semitepuy the Yaakana, whose maximum height is 1,350 meters. asl The park would be limited by the Orinoco in the South and Southwest, Ventuari River North and River West Yagua and savannas. The jaguar also receives several tributaries that begin in the park, along with other rivers and streams, as Maraya, Moyo, Cucurital, Guaname, Puruname, Yapakana.

Although statewide Amazon is very rich in gold ore, is the hill which gained fame Yapakana, since there is exploited with great success since I discovered the rubber trader Carlos Wendehake near the years 1922 - 24. The reason for missing the vein, they said those familiar with the region, losing many of them several years to rediscover the fabulous grain.

Many years later, around 1970, an operator of forest products, he found, he says it happened, signs near the hill on the banks of the river Yagua, very near the surface without digging, was the new field that was widening; to the news and others near this place filled with miners of various nationalities, it being decreed death by predators biological balance. Is expected to achieve National Park was established to save at least the bulk of the mountain and water reservoirs.

You can get there by browsing the Orinoco, but the gold rush miners has made numerous clues to build planes in the savannas.

Would be very important in this national park include the relatively near or Asisa Serrania del Paru, but even better would be to create another national park here, before they reach the waves of uncontrolled mining, as this beautiful region is very rich in gold and diamonds, further exploration of strategic minerals as made by the CODESUR Divisón of Mineralogy.
